1 --- After 7 years of regular class attendance at my local gym, I was in good shape but also in constant, low-level pain which was a continuous energy drain. After just 4 weeks of the Back Lab, I am almost pain-free and feeling stronger. The progressive plan and detailed instruction bring focus to individual muscles and muscle groups so that I am no longer overusing some muscles and under-utilizing others. Especially useful are Katherine’s directions for good form and correct posture which bring the maximum benefit from the exercises without excessive strain. Katherine also makes the classes accessible through the use of progressive weights and alternate versions of the exercises to suit any level. I highly recommend these classes to anyone interested in learning to get stronger and master their physical body.
2 --- Your approach of being muscle-specific and inserting information on correct posture is wonderful. I've found your information about feet revolutionary in my world. If you remember when I started I had almost constant low-level muscle pain which has all but disappeared. My feeling about it is that I'm strengthening the right muscles and using them correctly which fixes the problem. While I was going to the gym and attending classes regularly, there wasn't a consistency of focus so my strength was uneven and inconsistent.
For the past week, I've been doing some work that involves concrete. So far, I've purchased and carried 9, 66lb bags of concrete from the display to the cart to the car to the garage then mixing and pouring. All of this was done with no pain! She encourages everyone to work within their personal limits- and always gives modifications to make an exercise easier or more difficult as needed. I am writing in support of Katherine de Boda’s strength training classes. I am a retired general surgeon. I have cared for patients facing many types of healthcare challenges and have faced some challenges myself(as all of us do in our lives). I have come to respect the ability of the body to heal itself and recover but also understand the importance of caring for our bodies; physically, mentally & spiritually. There is no doubt in my mind keeping our musculoskeletal system strong (our spine, joints, core, etc) allows us to function our best in our day-to-day life as well as avoid injury, recover from injury, and optimize our organ function.
A friend introduced me to Katherine’s strength training classes earlier this year and her classes have helped me regain strength as well as confidence in my ability to function at my best.
There are many reasons I love Katherine’s classes. She has a phenomenal knowledge base of the musculoskeletal system & incorporates all of her exercises to connect your mind & breathing with your body as you perform each exercise. She is very well organized, focused, and an excellent teacher. Nothing is rushed.
She demonstrates each exercise with modifications while you are recovering from the previous exercise. I learn new exercises each class & am never bored. Each class is a whole-body workout with a warmup, core work, special bodywork and then stretching. I find myself looking forward to each class as well as always feeling great afterward.
I feel I gain a lot of strength with Katherine’s sessions but more importantly feel my body functions better in my daily life. Also, there is a great emphasis on core work which also supports the function of our organs.
